Term 1
During our topic of ‘Outer Space’ P7 carried out a Science experiment using 6 different rock types and vinegar. Some of the rocks bubbled when they were added to vinegar; some did not produce any bubbles when they were added to vinegar. The P7 researched why this happened.
Here are some of the girls from P7 getting ready to perform, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Don’t they look the part!?
P7 have been very lucky to get some cricket coaching by Michael Higginson this term. We are concentrating hard in these photos!
“Go team, Go!”
In P7 our second topic is ‘Outer Space,’ a lot of the planets in our Solar System are made from different types of rocks. We were given samples of 11 different types of rocks, in teams we used a flowchart to help us to sort and decide on the names of each type of rock- “We Rock!”
In P7 we have been learning all about ‘The Victorians’. We have particularly enjoyed learning about many of the fantastic Victorian Inventions. We owe a lot to the Victorian people as they invented many brilliant things including X-rays, the telephone, light bulbs and the first cars.
During this lesson (see photos) we became inventors ourselves. We were given the task of coming up with two of our very own inventions. Having completed our designs we had to present our inventions to the rest of the class.
Watch out for us during the next series of Dragon’s Den!
The Victorians created Jelly Babies, they were known as Peace Babies. We have been learning about the History of the Jelly Babies, we also have learnt about Probability using Jelly Babies. As a Halloween treat, Miss Robinson served us some Jelly Baby, ice-cream (another Victorian invention) and chocolate cake! Yum, yum, some lovely Halloween goodies after our term’s hard work!
Tai-Chi
Year 7 started some Tai-Chi with the Tai-Chi master ‘Homson’. Tai-Chi is a form of martial arts which is predominantly used to encourage general well-being through the development of physical strength, balance and co-ordination. It also develops patience, perseverance and can be a mode of self-defence.
Victorian Models
Year 7 have been learning about how the Victorians invented many inventions including light bulbs, electricity and radios. We drew plans of Victorian houses that had a working circuit in them. Here is P7 Robinson working in teams to create their 3D Victorian houses. All of these houses have fantastic features and have working electric circuits in them!
Victorian Walk of Coleraine
P7 Robinson visited Coleraine Town Hall for a Victorian Workshop on Thursday 9th October. The class walked to several places in the town. We learnt about what life was like in the past during Victorian times. We learnt about toys, clothes and smells of that time! After our walk we returned to the town hall and we made a ‘heart dolly’ out of wheat. In Victorian times people gave these dollies to a friend or loved one to show how much they cared for them.
